Leopard and PHP

PHP5 wasn’t working right out of the box for me in OS X Leopard, so here is what I did to fix the issue. Fire up your trusty terminal window and type (you can replace “mate” with whatever editor your comfortable using, like pico or vi):

mate /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

find the line that reads:

#LoadModule php5_module        libexec/apache2/libphp5.so

and remove the ‘#’, save the file, and reboot apache by turning off and on again under System Preferences > Sharing > Web Sharing.

Apple Safari 3.0 Public Beta for XP/Vista

Apple has released its browser, Safari, to the windows community. Safari currently has a 4% market share of the browser market, it will be interesting to see if they can take on FireFox. I personally use FireFox on both my OS X and Vista boxes.

Beta 3 is also available to test on OS X.

Apple Boot Camp updated to 1.2

Boot Camp 1.2 beta contains several updates and is intended for all new and previous Boot Camp beta users.

  • Support for Windows Vista (32-bit)
  • Updated drivers, including but not limited to trackpad, AppleTime (synch), audio, graphics, modem, iSight camera
  • Support the Apple Remote (works with iTunes and Windows Media Player)
  • A Windows system tray icon for easy access to Boot Camp information and actions
  • Improved keyboard support for Korean, Chinese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Russian, and French Canadian
  • Improved Windows driver installation experience
  • Updated documentation and Boot Camp on-line help in Windows
  • Apple Software Update (for Windows XP and Vista)

Firefox and Thunderbird get updates

Both Firefox and Thunderbird received minor updates today, not just for Mac OS X but also for Windows and Linux.  Firefox 2.0.0.1 is available for download immediately via Mozilla’s web site, and fixes a number of critical security (and other) issues.

Apple releases Aperture 1.5.2 update

Apple Computer on Monday released the latest in an ongoing series of maintenance updates to its post-production photography workflow application, which it recommends for all users of the software.

Aperture 1.5.2 (131MB) addresses issues related to overall reliability and performance, the company said.

Specific areas targeted by the update include: contact sheet printing, smart albums, watermarks, lift and stamp, image export, and image versions created using an external editor.
