December 27th, 2005 Posted in Video Games |

Those hackers from team PI have released the Xbox 360 experience kiosk demo disc as an ISO. They say this demo contains no media protection and therefore it will run on the Xbox 360 when burned to a DVD-R disc. The disc contains playable demo’s on the disk such as Call of Duty 2, which could also be hackable, as PI speculates.

Frst 2.01 Homebrew Game Ported By PSP 3D

That’s right. From Hello World yesterday, to Tetris today. We at PSP 3D have successfully ported the first 2.01 game EVER. Thanks to Fanjita for the tips and for the wonderful GTA hack (props to all the people who helped him too). In the next few days, expect this and more games to be ported to 2.5 also (if and when we get SYSCALs working)…

If you are a homebrew developer and would like your game converted to 2.01 format (2.5 in the near future), please feel free to contact us with the SOURCE to your homebrew (aka, the C++ files, not an EBOOT or .bin).

World of Warcraft Patch 1.8.4

Battlegrounds

* Battles must now last at least ten minutes after the start of the battle in order for the losing team to receive a Mark of Honor.

World

* New quests for the Feast of Winter Veil have been added! See your Smokywood Pastures customer service representative in Ironforge and Orgrimmar for more details!
* The level of many of last year’s Feast of Winter Veil quests have been adjusted so that reputation rewards are available in their full amount for players of all levels able to do them.
* Fixed a bug with both versions of the quest “A Smokywood Pastures’ Thank You!” that was sending mail out immediately rather than on the intended delay.
* In a startling discovery, Mistletoe sold on last year’s vendors is now named “Fake Mistletoe”. A Smokywood Pastures spokesman was quoted as saying, “Sorry, no refunds.”
* Some of the Southsea Dock Workers that were working under the boat should now be much more accessible to players.
* Andre Firebeard no longer has a chance of dropping a Wastewander Water Pouch.
* All OOX Distress Beacons are now multi-drop; everyone in a group should be able to receive one if it drops.
* Fixed a bug with Oglethorpe Obnoticus’ gossip where he was being much more familiar with strangers than he should have been.

General

* Various preparations added to the client for Patch 1.9.

Linux on Xbox 360

November 28th, 2005 Posted in Video Games |

Joystiq.com has some information on the security measures employed in Microsoft’s Xbox 360. If you’re planning on hacking this console, it’s going to be quite the chore:

* The flash is encrypted with a per-box key
* The key is stored inside the CPU
* The boot ROM is stored inside the CPU
* Also inside the CPU is a hypervisor that verifies the running state of the kernel, making sure there is no modification (RAM checksums), else the Xbox 360 panics and blows up!
* The CPU contains RAM inside of it to store the checksums
* All interrupt/exception handling is done by the hypervisor
* All code runs in kernel mode
* The emulator for first generation games can be updated via an official Microsoft download burned to CD by the user, though the CDs’ content will be encrypted and signed with public key cryptography. The boot ROM is stored inside the CPU.
