I Hate IE

There I said it. I feel like thats a tough thing to say. I was an IE zealot for a long time, becuase IE used to be the best in the browsers wars between IE/Netscape, but like most winners, IE got too cocky and there hasn’t been a serious update (besides security holes) in years.

Enter CSS. CSS is one of the better standards to enter the web designers world, both mozilla and IE adopted the standard and all was good, for awhile. However CSS has vastly improved and can do some seriously amazing things that will make you curse tables and cringe at having all your content embedded underneath tons of useless and slow code. But the problem is that as CSS is growing and improving, IE hasn’t apdated to the new changes, so all these fantastic new features that make coding websites easier are completly useless as 95% of people still use IE. See this listing for what browsers support what standards.

IE is offically dead on the Mac OS and OSX 10.3.3’s defualt browser “Safari 1.2″ handles CSS correctly. So what about all the windows users? Well, I suggest you look into FireFox, its a new branch of the mozilla project that gaining popularity steadily, and whats even better is constantly being worked on. You can even get daily builds if you like living on the razors edge.

Most people won’t switch becuase it our (the designers) lives easier, but with no new version of IE on the horizon (think Windows Longhorn in 2007), and the fact that FireFox will install along side IE and not interfere, don’t you think its worth atleast a test drive.
